About us

This project welcomes Y-DNA testers with the surname Field, Fields, or similar spellings whose families emigrated from Great Britain. People with different surnames who have close Y-Chromosome matches to male Fields are also welcome. The surname Field is derived from the Feld(e), a word used in both Anglo-Saxon and Norman cultures to describe locations where the forest was felled and agriculture could be conducted. The word has been adopted as a surname many times with various connotations. The goals of this project are to 1) define the Field lineages where they exist today for people interested in genealogical research, and 2) to search for links between families in North American and the British Isles at the time of colonial settlement.
