About us
The Lindsay International Surname DNA Project had its origins in 1999 when two Aussie Lindsay mates tested to check their relateness. This lead to a Global strategy being formulated in 2001, which lead to 22 participants joining the first round of testing in 2002. Through a succession of Labs and through increasing levels of resolution, Y-STR testing lead to the discovery of the "Groups" (genetic families). Knowing your correct genetic family focuses collaboration and prevents the genealogist from barking up the wrong tree. Literally. To date we are working with 31 identified Lindsay genetic families.
In 2014, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) became commercially viable. NGS is branded by FTDNA as the Big Y. Using NGS, inherited portfolios of Y-SNPs are cross-compared, and out of that the SNP descendency tree is discovered. Each branch in the tree is attributable to a specific forefather. NGS has rescued hundreds of Lindsay forefathers from oblivion. Some go by their SNP nicknames. Our goal is to learn who these forefathers are.
We invite Lindsays to contact us. We may already be able to tell you where you fit. Your family may already be represented in the Study. Any Lindsay man is invited to participate and any Lindsay lady is invited to find a proxy tester so she can investigate her own paternal lineage. As of July 2024 we have aboutg 470 Y-DNA participants.
We recommend the Y-37 as the exploratory test, and the Big-Y700 as the high resolution test. JFL 19 JUL 2024
