Normandy (Normandie) is a region of France rich in history. At various times it was inhabited by Celts (Guals) , artifacts found indicate Gallic presence in Normandy as far back as the times of the Hallstatt or Tène cultures. This was followedby  Romans, Franks and Vikings from which the region takes it's name-Norman: ( Nourmaundie, from Old French Normanz, plural of Normand, originally from the word for "northman" in several Scandinavian languages ) . In the 11th century came the The Norman Dynasty established by William the Conquerer which ruled England for over half a century . In more modern times it was the area of the tragic , mostly Canadian , invasion of Dieppe in World War II as well as the successful allied landings on D Day.

The Normandy Y-DNA Project is a genetic genealogy research project for persons who can trace a y-dna (father-to-son) line to Normandy, France, which includes Haute-Normandie and Basse-Normandie, or to the Channel Islands (Îles Anglo-Normandes) of Jersey and Guernsey

Please do NOT join a line to the Normandy DNAProject if you cannot trace the most distant y-dna ancestor of that line to Normandy. 

Who Can Join? Please join a line to the NormandyY-DNA Project only if you can trace the most distant y-dna ancestor of that line to Normandy. 

Although a 12-marker haplotype from Family Tree DNA and y-dna ancestry in Normandy are all that is required to join the Normandy Y-DNAProject, we strongly suggest you upgrade your haplotype to 25, 37, 67 or, ideally, 111 markers as soon as you can. In addition, we strongly recommend that a member has the extensive SNP testing offered by theGeno 2 test or test individual SNP?s at FTDNA to determine their subclade. The Geno 2 test can be ordered from a link on one's"Haplotree" page and results transferred to FTDNA with no charge.

We respectfully ask that you, as a participating memberof the Normandy Y-DNA Project, create a YSearch entry. That can easily be done by going to your "Y-DNA Matches" page, clicking on the link there that says, "Click here to upload to Ysearch.org", and following the directions. 

If you are a member of the French Heritage DNAProject, please don't quit it to become a member of the Normandy Y-DNA Project. You can belong to both projects at the same time! If you have ancestry in Normandy and are not a member of the French Heritage DNA Project, please join! La Normandie (Normandy)est une région de France riche en histoire. Elle a été successivement peuplépar:

La région prend à cette dernière invasion son nom actuel qui a évolué avec le temps: Nourmaundie, du vieux françaisNormanz, pluriel de Normand.  Ce dernier provient du vieux norrois «northman » ancienne langue scandinave médiéviale.  Issue d'une grande famille Normande, Guillaume leConquérant va régner sur l'Angleterre de 1066 à 1087 et installer sa dynastie.
En des temps plus modernes, c'est le débarquementallié de la seconde guerre mondiale : le fameux jour J de juin 1944.Invasion tragique de part leur sacrifice pour la liberté, de soldats enmajorité d’origine canadienne qui sont tombés dans la région de Dieppe.

Le projet Y-ADN de la région de la normandie en France est unprojet de recherche de généalogie génétique pour les personnes qui peuventremonter leur lignée patronymique. Les ancêtres doivent être originaire de lahaute et basse normandie mais aussi des îles anglo-normandes de Jersey etGuernesey.

Les personnes pouvant rejoindre ce  Projet Normandie Y-ADN  sont seulement celles qui peuvent remonter àun ancêtre de la lignée patronymique parfaitement identifié dans cette zonegéographique.

Bien que le marqueur haplotype a12 fournit par Family Tree DNAet la généalogie Y-ADN sont tout ce qui est requis pour rejoindre le ProjetY-ADN Normandie, nousrecommandons fortement que vous mettiez a jour votre marqueur haplotype a67ou,idéalement  a111 le plus rapidement possible. En complément, nous suggéronsun test avec Genographic Project en remplacement du test"deep clade"proposé par FTDNA. En effet celui-ci n'est pas a jour et vous pourrez alorstransférer vos résultats vers FTDNA.
