There are discrete Cree families dating from the 1700's from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania (five distinct lines) and various southern states in the US, as well as co. Down, Northern Ireland; Bolsover, Derbyshire, England; Co. Clare, Ireland; Wales; and Scotland. Some of the other families are believed descended from Scottish lines, although few have been conclusively linked through traditional genealogical methods, while others are thought to have genealogically and geographically separate origins.
