The Dow Y-DNA project seeks to harness the power of DNA testing to expand our knowledge of the various Dow lineages.

An important part of genetic genealogy group projects is recruiting new members. Please encourage matches with the same surname to also join this project; likewise encourage those with the same surname who have not tested to consider doing a DNA test. There is a discount on certain Y-STR tests ordered through the group project page. 

Y-STR testing (Y-DNA12, Y-DNA25, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, and Y-DNA111 tests) are an important part of Y-DNA testing, allowing us to see matches. However in recent years Y-SNP testing through various means such as Big Y, individual SNP testing, and SNP-Packs have allowed us to refine these matches and offer the potential of identifying recently occurring SNPs that may be particularly associated with a given surname.  

If you have not already done so, I encourage you to list your earliest known Dow ancestor on your myFTDNA account User Preferences page. 

This will assist in member subgrouping. Please also let me know if you have a known relationship with another project member (such as a brother, 1st cousin, and so forth.)
