Krise Surname DNA Project

The Krise Surname DNA Project has been established to create a databank of Y-DNA profiles of families with variations on the surname Krise. The primary purpose is to provide a basis for documenting and distinguishing different family lines which share a common surname. DNA analysis is a scientific tool which can determine whether or not the persons contributing the DNA samples descend from a common ancestor. The Krise surname derives from different European family names, representing different ethnic groups, as well. Surnames known to be related to the American surname Krise include Greiß, Greiss, Grass, Grice, Grise, Kraiss, Kreis, Kries, Kriss, Kress, and Crise. Some longer surnames are also known to have been shortened to Krise.

This project can assist family historians in confirming or refuting possible lines of descent, but its success depends on accumulating a sufficiently large databank. This study is limited to the Y-chromosome. However, all men named Krise, or any possible or reasonable variation, are encouraged to join the project. Female researchers are also welcome to participate but will need to submit a DNA sample from a male member of her family: her brother, father, grandfather, or a brother of her father or grandfather.

For further information about the background of this project, please refer to the results page.

Several levels of testing are available and appropriate to this project. The Y-DNA 12 test is sufficient to determine whether or not a family relationship exists. More extensive testing makes it possible to predict the degree of relationship. All levels of testing are appropriate to this project and some participants may wish to begin with the Y-DNA 12 test. Additional testing is always an option. Most researchers will find that the Y-DNA 37 and Y-DNA 67 tests provide the most useful results. The following Y-chromosome DNA tests are available.

Y-DNA12 (12 marker test for $99)
Y-DNA25 (25 marker test for $114)
Y-DNA37 (37 marker test for $149)
Y-DNA67 (67 marker test for $238)

Prices are a special group rate and are subject to change. A Y-DNA 111 test is also available now, as well as upgrades to each of the above tests.
