The Saudi Arabia DNA is a dual (Y-DNA and mtDNA) project that is open to all nationals of Saudi Arabia, it focuses on the geographical distribution of haplotypes in each province.

Saudi Arabia is divided into 13 administrative areas: Al-Baha, Al-Jawf, Asir, Eastern Region, Hail, Jizan, Madinah, Makkah, Najran, Northern Border, Qasim, Riyadh and Tabuk. According to July 2009 Census figures, The Saudi Population has reached an estimate of 28,686,633 (including 5,576,076 non-nationals).

The main two ethnic groups are Arabs and Afro-Asians at an approximate of 90% and 10%, respectively. The Arabs of Saudi Arabia today are generally descended either from the fiercely independent Bedouin tribes which for centuries scoured the deserts, or from the cosmopolitan settled communities which thrived on the trade routes up and down the east and west coasts, or settled in Makkah.

Traditional Arabian Societies: Both Archaeology and the ancient pre-Islamic records of Arabia provide evidence of a tribally organised, camel-herding society which already by 1000 BC spanned the spectrum of nomadic and settled lifestyles. There has always been interchange between the desert and the town, with settlers adopting a nomadic or semi-nomadic lifestyles and nomads taking over settlements and becoming farmers and traders, in response to prevailing environmental, social, and political conditions. The old tribal allegiances remain a strong force in modern Saudi society, in the past, towns were often organized into quarters corresponding to the tribal origins of its inhabitants and frequently the same tribe could include both settled and nomadic components.

Saudi Arabia also hosts many non-Arab minorities, who mainly inhabit the Western and Eastern areas of the country. These ethnic groups include Turkic, Levantine, North African, East African, Indian, and East Asian communities.
