Description
Updated 14 September 2024.
The Big Y 700 is our test of choice for males.
To help find family connections for the WOODRUFFs of all spelling and variations. By joining the group you agree to provide the project with 3 things.
1) The surname of the person being tested.
2) The name, date and place of birth of the oldest researched male ancestor of your male patrilineal line and the oldest researched female ancestor of your matrilineal line.
3) Permission to publish the DNA results and the names, dates and places of birth of the oldest known patrilineal or matrilineal ancestor.
The Woodruff DNA Project uses the new tools of genetic genealogy and DNA testing to enhance and augment traditional genealogical research into Woodruff family lineages from the U.S., U.K., Europe, Canada, Australia, and anywhere else in the world Woodruff families are found. The project seeks to help break through brick walls in research and prove, or disprove, family connections where documented sources are either lacking or inconclusive.
Project participation is open to any direct paternal-line male Woodruff descendant—i.e., a male whose last name is Woodruff (or a variation, such as Woodroof) or a male whose biological paternal-line ancestry goes back to a Woodruff but whose last name was changed at some point, such as due to adoption. However, even if you are not a direct paternal-line male Woodruff descendant, you can join the project by sponsoring the testing of a Woodruff male from your immediate or extended family, such as a brother, son, father, uncle, male cousin, distant male cousin, etc. The success of the project depends on getting as many Woodruff males tested as possible, so please help this effort by getting tested yourself or arranging for the testing of a Woodruff male in your family.
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
