The purpose of the Nuevo Reino de Leon DNA project is to study and better understand the history and the area once known as the Nuevo Reino de Leon and those whose settled the vast territory. This vast territory included the present-day states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, as well as parts of Durango, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas in Mexico. In addition, the immense territory included parts of Texas and New Mexico in the present-day United States. This project is open to all who have ancestors who settled in the region that was once known as the Nuevo Reino de Leon. The project is especially designed for those who think they might have Jewish ancestors who were forced to covert to Catholicism during the time of the Spanish Inquisition. Our goal is not only to accumulate test results of participants, but also to gather family stories and legacies of the project members. By working together through the sharing of information and DNA testing we hope to better understand those settlers and the tapestry of heritage that formed the people and culture of the Nuevo Reino of Leon. El propósito del proyecto ADN del Nuevo Reino de León es estudiar y comprender mejor la historia y el área que una vez se conoció como el Nuevo Reino de León y aquellos que asentaron el vasto territorio. Este inmenso territorio incluía los actuales estados de Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo León y Tamaulipas, así como partes de Durango, San Luis Potosí y Zacatecas en México. Además, el territorio incluía partes de Texas y Nuevo México en los actuales Estados Unidos. Este proyecto está abierto a todos los que tengan antepasados que se asentaron en la región que alguna vez se conoció como el Nuevo Reino de León. El proyecto está especialmente diseñado para aquellos que piensan que podrían tener antepasados judíos que se vieron obligados a convertirse al catolicismo durante la época de la Inquisición española. Nuestro objetivo no es solo acumular los resultados de las pruebas de los participantes, sino también recopilar historias familiares y legados de los miembros del proyecto.
