This project is dedicated to the Blake family name worldwide. This surname can be found in distinct places within the British Isles including England, Ireland (both the Republic and Northern Ireland), Scotland and Wales from the 1200s on. The overall project plan is to encourage as many members of the Blake family to test in order to more completely understand the deep origins of the Blake family of the British Isles. Blake male descendants from around the world are invited to join the project to test their Blake yDNA and we do list the mtDNA for Blake females that have joined the project although the principal intent of this project is to look at Blake yDNA.

Several new branches of the Blake family have evolved over time as a result of name change only; and the y-DNA of those involved still continues in an unbroken line of male-to-male Blake lineage despite the variation in name within the relevant family lines.

The FTDNA Blake Surname DNA Project is affiliated with the Blake One-Name Study at the 'Guild of One-Name Studies'; and the surnames in our DNA Project are all being researched as a part of the Blake One-Name Study.
