About us
To join this project you should preferably belong to Y-DNA haplogroup Q-M242 and one of it's subclades Q-L527, Q-F749 or Q-L804. If your Y-DNA test shows Q-M242, and you have not yet taken a Big Y test, you are welcome to join, since an upgrade to a Big Y test likely will reveal that you belong to one of these three subbranches. You are also welcome to join if you belong to other subbranches downstream of of Q-F1161 and also if you belong to Q-L330 since both these branches could help us better understand the arrival and presence of Q-M242 in Scandinavia. Q-L527 and Q-L804 were likely widely spread in Northern Europe by the Viking Age and globally by the 19th century due to Scandinavian emigration. The history of Q-F749 in Scandinavia is less clear and we therefore urge Scandinavians who belong to subbranch Q-F749 to take a Big Y test.
The objectives of the project are:
1) To investigate and locate possible migration routes of the subbranches of Y-DNA haplogroup Q-M242 present in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland).
2) To build SNP trees of the Q Nordic branches based on results of the participants in the group project.
