About us
A core aim of this study to to establish whether Antell/Antill/Anketell/etc. families all decent from a single common ancestor, or from multiple ancestors who adopted similar surnames.
In particular, an initial hypothesis we are testing is whether the different clusters of Antell/Antill families in England are related. The 1851 England Census shows clusters of Antell/Antill families in the following areas:
- Dorset
- Leicestershire
- Gloucestershire
- Surrey & Middlesex
We are also seeking to:
- Establish whether John Antill of Maryland was descended from Francis Anketell, who emigrated from London to Maryland.
- Determine whether the Colden Antills are descended from the Anketell family of Dorset, England; which is suggested by heraldry but for which there is no other evidence.
- Confirmed that the Antle families of Newfoundland, Canada emigrated from Dorset, England.
