The general goals for the Ashley YDNA project are, through the use of both YDNA testing and conventional genealogy, to:
1. Determine which Ashley lines are related to each other. (This can be fairly easily determined through YDNA testing.)
2. Identify the connections between related Ashley lines. (This will depend mostly on genealogical breakthroughs; however, knowing which lines are definitely related should help.)
3. Identify the immigrant ancestor of each US Ashley line. (This will be very hard and will depend on genealogical breakthroughs, although YDNA test results can help. To date, no US Ashley line has conclusively identified its immigrant ancestor.)
4. Identify English relatives (and hopefully ancestors) of each US Ashley line. (YDNA testing by more English Ashleys would help immensely in this regard.)
