About us
The aim of this project is reunite BRITTON families living in Fermanagh Ireland in the late 18th century and to confirm their origins. It is generally thought that they arrived in Ireland during plantation and may have originally come from Scotland. Please click on the 'background' tab for more information about the specific families currently identified by the project.
Our interest is mainly in Northern Ireland (Fermanagh, Donegal and Tipperary) but anyone with BRITTON ancestors who were born, lived or died in Ireland are welcome to join.
Please note as this is a 'Family Finder' project, no tables are available on the FTDNA website under 'DNA results'. However, maps are shown for the origins of mtDNA and Y-DNA testers, these may or may not be indicative of 'Britton' ancestry.
Please refer to the 'results' tab above for information about members, their oldest documented BRITTON ancestor and details of their earliest DNA confirmed BRITTON ancestor.
DNA confirmed ancestors identified by the project are being updated at Wikitree. Family tree descendant information (where known) may also be found via our Patriarchs and Matriarchs pages at Wikitree. You can access these via our Wikitree project page - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Brittons_of_Ireland_-_DNA_Project. This page contains more information about how you can get involved in the project.
Y-DNA results for the Britton surname can be accessed here - https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/britton/about
