FAQ
Who are the people you would like to participate in the Project
Why is the Project confined to the period of Dutch rule at the Cape of Good Hope?
In order to keep the Project manageable, the target population needs to be limited to a well defined period or group and their descendants. Other South African groups could include the Settlers of 1820, the Natal Indians or the Cape Coloureds, for an example. This Project concentrates on the Cape Dutch inhabitants of the Cape from 1652 up to the point of large scale British immigration from 1820.
The early Cape saw immigration from numerous countries other than the Netherlands. Especially from what is now Germany, France, Belgium and Scandinavia. Why did you choose "Cape Dutch" as the Project name?
My emphasis is on the "Cape" part of Cape Dutch and not the place of origin of any particular line. Any Y-DNA (and also mtDNA) lines present at the Cape during the period of Dutch rule is encouraged to join.

The Cape just happened to be under Dutch control at the time and the people living there became known as the Cape Dutch. It does not matter where these people come from, Denmark Holland or Batavia. In the end they all spoke Dutch and lived in Cape Dutch houses.
