Cavers Y-DNA project

About us

Welcome to the CAVERS worldwide DNA project. Cavers is a very old surname which can be traced back to the parish of Cavers in Roxburghshire in south-east Scotland. The surname is remarkably consistent in its spelling, probably mainly because of it being a local parish name known by officials.

The DNA project is run in conjunction with the Cavers one-name study, which is registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies. Further information about the study can be found on the Cavers profile page:

http://www.one-name.org/profiles/cavers.html

There are a number of different Cavers family lines, whose connections are not clear, mainly because the Scottish parish registers in the key areas generally run out in the late 18th century. It is hoped that DNA studies of the male line of descent (Y-DNA) may clarify how the different lines link up.

We encourage males who order a Y-DNA test to order 37 markers, if possible. If you order less markers, you can upgrade later though this costs a little more. By taking part in the Cavers Project you take advantage of the group rates.

If you are resident in the UK, and wish to participate, I (the project Administrator) can order kits to send out at the offer price of £80.00. if you are outside the UK please contact Family Tree direct and join the project in that way - you can use the form below to order your test kit.
