About us

Welcome to the Chamblee-Chamlee (and all spelling variants) DNA Project! We are actively seeking participants for this study from all over the world. Donations in any amount can be made to the general fund by PayPal or credit card and would be greatly appreciated. Please see the link near the bottom of this page.

We are currently looking to sponsor kits for men bearing the Chamley or Chomley name from Westmorland County, England. If you or someone you know qualifies, please contact us as soon as possible by sending an email to chamblee.genealogy@gmail.com

Order a test:
Visit this link http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Chamblee, and click Order Now next to the kit you want to order. Sales happen all the time.

About the tests:
The test is simple and completely painless. For more information, visit this link http://www.familytreedna.com/dna-test-kit.aspx.

Also, please transfer your autosomal/family finder atDNA, or take that test at FTDNA. Strands of atDNA can narrow things down.

Why this study exists:
Our goal is to find a common link between these families and prove relationships between the earliest known ancestors with these surnames.

Participants WELCOME from ALL COUNTRIES!

The Alleged Chamblee brothers

Date estimates are based on the earliest and latest records found. So far DNA confirms these early men are most likely brothers; DNA backs up the long-researched paper trail.

Robert Chamblee (tax records and other records use "Robert Chamlee")
b. 1738-41 probably in Bertie County, North Carolina or maybe the UK; d. ca 1819 in Wake County, North Carolina. Mentioned in records in Bertie and Hertford Counties, North Carolina (the few that are extant). Left a will and an estate trail. Wife or mother was Hester/Esther Chamblee. Ancestors from the 1880's indicated he had red hair. He died testate (filed a will) and some of his sons and relatives migrated to Pendleton District, SC.
Jacob Chamlee
b. 25 Jan 1752, probably in North Carolina; d. after 1833. Left a bible. Spouse not mentioned. Migrated to lands in Tennessee, then migrated down to South Carolina and joined his relatives.
Isaac Chamblee b. ca 1754, records in Hertford County, North Carolina, and Wake County, North Carolina. Died probably Dec 1800 in Wake County, North Carolina. Married Lucretia Jones (her maiden name unproven). Land division and other records mentioned sons, some went with other relatives and uncles to Pendleton District, SC.
George Chamblee  [this man's middle name was not "Washington"], b. ca 1740+, perhaps in North Carolina or the UK, migrated to Pendleton District (Anderson County), South Carolina. Wife Sarah Christiana Bell (unproven). We need straight-line male descendants from this man to test. PLEASE!

IMPORTANT DEADEND LINES IN THE USA NEED yDNA TESTING

Please contact us if you are descended from one of the following men!

Adniron Jodson Chamlee b. June 7, 1831 in North Carolina, of McMinn County, TN. Years ago yDNA indicated this line not connected to other Chamlee, Chamblee lines. However autosomal results are showing otherwise, which means there might have been a "paternal event" someone on the original tester's line? PLEASE transfer your autosomal (atDNA) from other companies, or get the test here. JOIN this project!

Riley Chambley/Chamblee b. 31 July 1813, North Carolina; d. 14 Feb 1885, Carroll County, Mississippi; married Nancy Coulter. Had at least 13 children. We are getting some interesting connections to the Isaac Chamblee and James B Chamblee line--need more testers to view strands of DNA.
