About us

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: This is a DNA Project to identify living descendants of Richard Lee Clark (1795 Hanover County, Virginia - 1883 Wayne County, Illinois) and his first wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Malinda Jones (1805 TN - 1866 IL). We also hope to identify the living descendants of their ancestors, such as brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grand-aunts and grand-uncles, as well as parents and grandparents and beyond, in order to extend and refine our family trees. Male participants who carry the Clark or Clarke surname need to order or to have completed a Y-DNA test at least to the 37-marker level. A Y-DNA 67 or Y-DNA 111 test, the J1-M267 SNP pack test, or Big Y are also encouraged. We have identified our male Clark/Clarke terminal SNP as J-ZS241 so far. Please ask for assistance before ordering any Y-DNA test. ALL participants must either order the Family Finder (autosomal DNA or atDNA) test through Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) or have already done one. If you have tested with Ancestry DNA or another company, you must agree to transfer your atDNA test results to Family Tree (if they are accepted by FTDNA) and to unlock them (for a fee of $19) upon admittance into the project. Female descendants, especially if you can trace your matrilineal ancestry (your mother, her mother, her mother before her, etc.) back to Betsy through one of the daughters, can do the Mitochondrial Full Sequence (mtDNA) test as well! All participants are expected to have as complete a Family Tree as possible and a list of surnames and locations posted on their FTDNA page. Please make sure your privacy settings allow other project members to view your results. We welcome everyone with a genetic connection, or who suspect a genetic connection, to this ancestral couple either through direct descendency from one of their children or through descendency through one of their ancestors. Also, please let me know what DNA tests you have already completed. If you have tested with a company other than FTDNA, I will help you get your results transferred over to FTDNA, if they are transferable. If you have not yet tested, I will help you order the appropriate tests, and give you a project discount or a discount coupon code, if available. I look forward to hearing from you very soon. If you have further questions, feel free to email me at famhistgirl@gmail.com. I am always happy to assist in any way I can. Best wishes, Susan Clark Neese Project Administrator
