About us
1. Test results on Cockburn men with ancestral origins going back to around 1622 in the Duns area of Scotland indicate close matches with the Dunbar surname Y-DNA markers.
2. Test results on the families originating in Cumberland prove that for certain families the name changed from Cockbain to Cockburn. This is evidenced by close matches with the 37 marker Y-DNA test results.
Also, there are a lot of 25 marker matches between the Cumberland Cockbain/Cockburn families and various Scottish surnames, but as the surnames are different it is believed that these families will probably be related by a common ancestor before the times of establishing surnames.
