There are an unknown number of COLCLOUGH/COAKLEY/COKELY trees out there. This Project is an effort to separate the trees by DNA so that people can identify which tree to bark up in order to find their ancestors. Identification of the right tree can be half the battle in genealogical research.
The specific aims of the Project are to test connections between American branches of Colclough, Coakley and Cokely (and other spelling variants), and to determine relationship between American COLCLOUGH with Irish (Wexford) and English (Staffordshire) lines. It is also hoped that the American lines of Coakley and Cokely can be tied to the earlier line of COLCLOUGH, if that is indeed the case.
Further, each tree may be distinguishable in its branches by DNA. Hopefully this test can help participants determine not only which tree, but also which branch of that tree is their ancestry.
