About us
The Duke surname group project is for individuals with the surname Duke, Dukes, le Duc, DuGué, and similar variants. At this time, our Y-DNA testing and research has identified over 20 genetically unrelated families under these surnames—and there are many others waiting for someone to match.
We welcome all descendants to join our group, but we do ask that you at least share information about your earliest documented ancestors so that we can determine how you may be connected. This does not require disclosure of your name and contact information, but identifying and publishing your kit in one of our Y-DNA subgroups does involve publicly linking your kit to a documented ancestor.
While we are primarily focused on Y-DNA testing due to the nature of a surname group, those with female ancestors and mtDNA or autosomal (Family Finder) results are also welcome. This may help us connect you to another member of the group, which could help us track down a male descendant that we need to identify another missing link.
Our largest subgroups fall under Y-DNA haplogroups I2a and R1b, but there are also possible descendants in E1b, G2, I1, J2, NO, Q1b, R1a, and T1b. Some of those groups only contain one or two people who are waiting for other family members to test and match them.
