FTDNA has replaced the Big Y-500 test with a new Big Y-700 product. The new product should have wider and more consistent coverage of the useful area of the Y-chromosome. For distinguishing lineages within a family group or clan, this new test should prove valuable.

The English Mapping DNA Project now has over 900 participants. With the emergence of higher resolution SNP classification thanks to the Big Y-500 test and other SNP tests, we have now grouped project members into SNP groups. This effort took many hours of labor. The grouped results using the FTDNA mapping tools now enables one to start seeing geographic patterns within Ireland and within the major R1b-L21 subclades. The grouped results using the FTDNA mapping tools now enables one to start seeing geographic patterns within the British Isles and within the major R1b subclades. See https://www.familytreedna.com/public/englishmapping?iframe=ymap for dynamic maps based on this SNP-grouping. Unfortunately, those with STR-estimated or very generic terminal SNP markers such as M269 are excluded from the higher mid-resolution plots. If your results are listed in the Ambiguous SNP Phylogeny group, we recommend that you upgrade to the comprehensive Big Y-500 test which combines millions of SNPs along with Y-111 plus other STRs.---------------------

The English Mapping DNA Project now has over 820 participants. We have performed a review and geocoding of the earliest paternal ancestors listed for all participants with many new plots pointed. This effort gives us currently 504 ancestral positions plotted on the map page. A static image of this map with major Y-Haplogroups was published.
