Vision: To provide a central repository of DNA tests, results, matches and pedigrees for families who claim a line of descent from the Farrar's Island Family using Y-DNA, Mt-DNA and atDNA to direct strategic searches. DNA based: Must have Y-DNA, Mt-DNA or atDNA test with FTDNA. Participants who have an unknown pedigree but can demonstrate a DNA connection to the Farrar's Island Family are welcome. Mission: Project administrators and family volunteers can help participants find their branch of the Farrar's Island Family and assist with finding MRCA's to other participants. Pedigree: Must have a compiled pedigree of at least 4 generations with a claimed line of descent from the Farrar's Island Family or from a closely related Colonial Virginia family connected to the Farrar's Island Family. Pedigree will be posted to the project knowledgebase which is via a Yahoo group open to participants only. Contact: E-mail contact must be active and reply to requests for information. Goals: Provide support for participants by compiling evidence both genetic and genealogical to direct family research towards proving their lineage as descendants of the Farrar's Island Family. Provide a process to direct research and share new information between participants. Provide tools and analysis to understand time to MRCA, suggested relationship to DNA matches, and assistance to direct and continue strategic searches based on the tool and analysis. Objectives: 1)share research and existing pedigree; 2)identify genealogical brick walls; 3)prepare a strategic test plan; 4) report results of strategic tests and 4) analyze results, matches and a) identify the MRCA; b) identify lineage to the Immigrant Ancestor and c) identify Earliest Known Ancestor. Participants agree to: 1) post updated pedigrees with citations and sources; 2) share information with others in the project; 3) share information with surname projects and 4) follow the guidelines of the project sponsors.
