We would like to encourage all GANZ lines to have at least 37 markers tested, or better yet the full 67 or 111. We believe that testing only 12 markers, the lowest resolution test offered by FTDNA, doesn't give sufficient information as to ancestry in a genealogically-relevant time period.
The larger goals of this project include the following highly speculative questions: Where did the GANZ family originate? Did it start in southern Germany/Austria and then migrate into Hungary and northern Romania? If so, when? Was the spread of the family related to the spread of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which encompassed all the places that this family has been found? Or were there multiple origins? How closely related are the different surname spelling variations?
