The project members have found a very close match between descendents of William L. Gates (born ca 1815 MS) and John Bedford Gates (born 1809 GA). Since John Bedford Gates is the known son of John Gates (born ca 1785), this suggests that William L. Gates is also the son of John Gates. The descendents of John Gates also match a descendent of the William Gates family, also found in Simpson County, MS.
