About us
Participation is open to anyone researching the genealogy of the George surname and having Y-DNA test results (12, 25, 37, 67, 111, BigY or equivalent). This is NOT for men who ONLY have autosomal (FamilyFinder or similar) test results. If you are not a male in a direct line of descent, you may find a male relative to take the Y-DNA test for you. Members are required to submit a pedigree of their male line to one of the project administrators, which we will not publish without your informed consent. We will publish an extract of the pedigree containing only the earliest ANCESTOR's name, geography, chronology, and Y-DNA STR and SNP markers, using a project code to protect your anonymity (please see our web site for examples). By sharing information through the George surname project in this manner, you will have many more opportunities to find out about your genealogical origins without giving up your anonymity or revealing detailed research that you wish to publish yourself. Of course, we will also give you the opportunity to publish more details about your research on our web site, if you wish. The 12, 25 and 67 marker tests are no longer available as first tests from FTDNA, and they are practically worthless for genealogy purposes. We STRONGLY encourage old and new members to upgrade their testing to the BigY-700 level, as this is proving absolutely necessary to research our lineages.
