About us
The main goal of the GIFFORD DNA project has been to create a database of descendants of the two early immigrants to America (William of Sandwich Massachusetts died 1687 and Stephen of Norwich Connecticut died 1724). Any GIFFORD man with American roots can now be tested and determine which of the immigrants he descends from (or neither in rare cases).
A secondary goal of the project has been to try and determine where the early immigrants came from by testing GIFFORD men in the British Isles. So far we have not found any matches, but we have only tested a few men. Hopefully we will find a match one of these years. We have identified a GIFFORD line in the Cambridgeshire/Huntingdonshire area of England which goes back a few hundred years. A descendant of that line came to America in the 1860s.
A chart of DNA results can be found in the following 2 files. Use the .xlsx file if you have Microsoft Excel. Otherwise use the .htm file.
