About us

2024.05.11 --- First ever, a yDNA match (R1b S18823) claiming descent from Virginia's William Golden, 1745–1810, and Alice Peggy Maupin (French Hugenot family), 1745–aft.1780. This Golden family has its origin in the Albemarle, Virginia northwest of Richmond. This yDNA has numerous matches with Thomas Golden family that settled at Newberry, South Carolina by 1760 ... the Newberry Goldens are known to have lived in the area settled primarily by former Virginians and others that traveled the Great Wagon Road. Newberry Goldens are Y700 tested with no unresolved SNPs in one of its branches.

2024.04.28 --- The Enoch Golden line now has three yDNA matches and has become its own subgroup: R1b 13-24-14 --- see https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/golden/dna-results ... What we know about Enoch Golden, c1775 VA/Culpeper to c1870/1 (TN/White): his Goldens were in the Culpeper County, Virginia area by c1775 when he was born. There are two claimed sets of parents for Enoch, which connects these Goldens to same region going back to c1730. One set of parents includes a father named 'Enoch' so chances are logical that Enoch would be father of Enoch ... but we really do not know. The other claimed father is a well known William Golden /  Golding (but not the line of William Golding and Elizabeth Foster). >> I track all Gold/Gould -en -in -ing - man in America before 1750. Am here to help if I can: Bill Golden Norfolk1956@gmail.com

2023.03 to 2024.04: There was a lot of Gold/Gould en/in/ing/man news during this time posted on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/GoldenGenealogy/ --- will work harder to include that news here! sez Bill Golden, Norfolk1956@gmail.com

2023.03.13 --- Someone asked about a discussion group for Golden DNA matches and variants. Will look to add something like that. Most Goldens within groups of 2-3+ members tend to belong to about five (5) Golden (et al) family groups that have external discussion pages. Am glad to help you get to the right place: Bill Golden, Norfolk1956@gmail.com

2020.11.20 --- Mags Gaulden joined us as co-Administrator of this group. Mags makes for a super point-of-contact if your surname is Galden, Galdin, Gaulden or Gaulding or something very similar.

2019.12.08 --- Two test results now exist to confirm the DNA lineage of Timothy Caleb Golden, aka Bill, c1808-1878, Haralson County, Georgia. As for his parents, that was established by Act of the Georgia Legislature; see post on GoldenGenealogy.com

2018.05.25 --- Bill Golden (Norfolk1956@gmail.com) joins as new Golden Surname co-administrator. Bill researches all Goldens, and variants of the name, that settled in the USA prior to 1800: 'Golden, Golding, Goulding et al Family History' ... includes variants such as Gald/en/ing, Gauld/en/ing, Gold/en/ing and Gould/en/in/ing.
