The goal of this project is to collect Y-DNA from Gossett men from the three main lineages found in the USA...

James of VA and SC
...to determine if all of us descend from the same ancestor and if so, determine approximately how long ago this ancestor lived.
Analyzing DNA from descendants of these three men will identify the extent to which we are related and hopefully lead us to the first Gossett in America.
Obviously, the DNA won't identify that ancestor. Rather, it will determine the extent to which we modern descendants are related and whether we descend from a common ancestor. The 12 marker test will be suitable to get the project going and will tell us if we share a common ancestor within the past 300 years or so.
