Per today, November 14 2019, we have released our initial paper on Gotlandic DNA based on historical DNA and analysis of themember's DNA-profiles. It has been tremendously interesting to go through all the tests and all the results. I briefly describe our conclusions below:

* the first settlers on Gotland after the end of the Ice Age corresponded to the DNA pattern noted in the rest of Europe at the sametime (women U4 or U5 and men I2)

* The population of Gotland has come through manywaves of immigration over time. In particular, we see that many different female haplogroups are represented (H, HV, U, I, J, T, V, W and K - counting both historical DNA and contemporary DNA). The men include G, I (I1 and I2), Nand R (R1 and R2).

* there are differences between which haplogroups arepresent in historical DNA compared to present-day DNA. This may partly bebecause few remains have tested and that the number tested through the project is still relatively few. There are more haplogroups on the women's side thatstill exist than on the men's side. There are indications of lineage that have lived on Gotland for a long time where the oldest ancestor or descendant could be traced back to the 1700s / 1600s, but because of the lack of material, the"bridge" is missing to be able to prove if there are relatives thathave come to Gotland during Bronze Age or earlier and still remains.

* we currently have fewer close genetic links than wemight have thought. This may be due to the fact that there are still relativelyfew tested or that what is said to be that the Gotlanders are related to each other does not actually correspond to such great extent. If two women with H,or two men with R, have the same ancestor or ancestor, it is a long time sincetheir lineage shared and their respective families may have immigrated separately from each other.

Detta kan dels bero på att det finns få testade kvarlevor och att antalet testade genom projektet är få. Det finns mer haplogrupper på kvinnosidan som fortsatt finns närvarande än på manssidan. Det finns indikationer på släktled som bott länge på Gotland där den äldste anfadern eller anmodern kunnat spåras tillbaka till 1700/1600-talet men på grund av avsaknad av material så saknas "bryggan" för att kunna bevisa om det finns släkter som kommit till Gotland under bronsåldern eller tidigare och fortfarande vinns kvar.

* i nuläget har vi färre nära genetiska släktband än vad vi kanske trodde. Det kan både bero på att det fortfarande är relativt sett få testade eller att det som sägs om att gotlänningarna är släkt med varandra faktiskt inte stämmer i så stor utsträckning. Om än två kvinnor med H, eller två män med R, har samma anmoder eller anfader, så är det länge sedan deras släktlinjer delade på sig och deras respektive släkter kan ha invandrat separat från varandra.
