About us
Results in the Project are grouped together in two different ways.
At the top of the Y-DNA Results Page are groups which represent definite Hanson/Henson lineages. The members of each group match each other closely and the results strongly suggest that they have inherited both their Y-DNA and their surname from a recent common paternal ancestor.
Further down the Results Page are Unmatched groupings based on Y-DNA Haplogroups. Haplogroups represent deep divisions in the human family tree and it is unlikely that any two individuals in these groupings have a recent common ancestor. In particular it is very likely that their surnames have different origins. Haplogroups are simply used to present the results with some sense of order rather than totally randomly. As new members join the Project I hope to be able to move some results out of the Unmatched section and into the Lineage section.
