About us

William Haskell (1577-1630) wasChurchwarden at the Church of St. Stephen in CharltonMusgrove, England in 1627 – 1628.  He married ElinorFoule in 1600/1.  They had seven children who were baptizedin Charlton Musgrove, Somerset, England. The three sons, Roger(bp. 6 Mar 1613/14), William (bp. 8 Nov 1618), and Mark(bp. 8 Apr 1621) emigrated to Massachusetts in the New World. Most Haskellsin the U.S. are descended from one of these three brothers. Rogermarried Elizabeth Hardy in 1639 and had ten children. Williammarried Mary Tybott in 1643 and had nine children. Markmarried Hannah Woodbury, the widow of JamesPatch, in 1658 and had two sons. Rogerhas the most descendants, William has the next mostdescendants, and Mark, with only two sons, hasthe fewest descendants.

The Haskell Family Association maintains an extensive Haskell family genealogicaldatabase containing over 100,000 names, including over 51,000 descendants ofthe brother, Roger, over 28,000descendants of the brother, William, and over 5,000 descendants of the brother, Mark.  The database contains over 8,000 names thatwe can’t, at present, link into the family tree.  One hope is that this DNA project may help inadding some of these Haskell “orphans” to the family tree.  Another goal of this project is to define theHaskell DNA haplotype and to identify the location within our family tree of thevarious STR mutations which have occurred since the time of William Haskell (1577-1630).  It is also hoped that our Haskell cousinsliving in England, who are not descended from William Haskell (1577-1630), will provide DNA tests, whichmay lead to the identification of earlier common ancestors in the 12thto 15th centuries.
