The Hecks DNA project has been started to research any genetic connection between the 3x main international surname groups being United Kingdom, Europe and North America. The surname was often spelt phonetically as Hex. The surname has a predominant origin (18th century) in South West England however contradicting oral history indicates either possible emigration from bordering regions of France, Belgium or Germany compared to some evidence indicating Anglo Saxon origin.
Because of the rarity of the Surname and the wider family interest in the full Hecks family tree, we encourage those joining to consider the MtDNA tests also. This study only caters for the male Y Dna lineage, however we hope you will consider sharing your related information seperately from this study with the administrator and others so interested.
