About us

Huntar, Hunter, Huntere, Hunterr, Huinter, Hunnter and variants. The Huntar DNA Project is a detour on a journey that began over 30 years ago, uncovering the knowledge that the surname Hunter originally stemmed from Huntar. This project aims to explore all the family branches descending from the Hunter Lairds of Hunterston in Scotland, as well as those in Ireland, Canada, Australia, England, Wales, and the USA. The Huntar Project is open to anyone interested in collaborating to discover our shared heritage through information sharing and DNA testing. If you haven't joined yet, we encourage you to do so today! After joining our project, please: 1. Grant "Limited Access" to the administrators of the project. You can do this by; - Signing in to FamilyTreeDNA. - From the top menu, select 'Group Projects,' then click on 'Manage Group Projects.' - Click the pencil icon next to the Group Project and grant 'Limited Access.' 2. Add Your Earliest Known Ancestor: Include their full name, birth year, and birthplace. 3. Email Us Your Pedigree Information: Share as much information as you can and let us know if you are a direct male descendant or your relationship to the Huntar, Hunter, or any variant. 4. Spread the Word: We would love for you to share our project with your Huntar or Hunter connections and inform us if you’ve made contact or found links with any of them. 5. Introduce Yourself: Start a conversation in the 'Activity Feed' to connect with fellow members. The more DNA relatives, the better!
