This project uses DNA to establish the different Moffat and Rutherford family lines, prove or disprove theories about those ancestors and validate existing genealogical research. It is open to all males with a variant of the surname Moffat and Rutherford or those men who think they may paternally descend from a Moffat or Rutherford male. Additionally, all participants must have the haplotype R1b and the rare marker value of 7 at DYS location 385a, indicating a close family relationship and a recent common ancestor (in the last few hundred years).
