About us
FTDNA BACKGROUND PAGE
We are the Official Worldwide Nolan DNA Project for ALL Nolan including surname variations.
Our objective is to use Y chromosome test samples to construct family groups and define lineages. These will be enhanced with traditional genealogical family trees and autosomal DNA test results provided by our members. We hope to match individuals and families who share common Nolan ancestors and break through researchers’ brick walls.
We host two separate initiatives: (1) the FTDNA Nolan Surname Project, (2) a facebook group forum to discuss FTDNA results, Nolan genealogy, and general DNA questions https://www.facebook.com/groups/NolanSurnameFTDNA/
[1] We recommend MALE NOLANS take FTDNA's Y-DNA 37 test or greater. We can help you decide. Higher levels of testing are valuable in delineating lineages within common haplogroups and large families. If your surname isn't Nolan, but suspect you might be one, take the Y-DNA 37 test. If you have maternal Nolan ancestors, try to locate a male Nolan relative, and ask that person to do a Y-DNA test! The same recommendation holds for female Nolans.
[2] We kindly request that Nolan Project Members submit your direct line PEDIGREE to your most distant verified Nolan ancestor. Email us with your pedigree to ftdna.nolan@gmail.com

As far down your family tree as you feel comfortable sharing.
[3] We wholeheartedly encourage ALL NOLAN descendants, male and female, to take autosomal DNA tests (such as FTDNA’s Family Finder). You can transfer DNA test results from other companies to FTDNA, thereby keeping all your test results in one place. In addition, everyone should consider uploading his or her autosomal test results to GEDmatch - a free service for comparing results among test takers from different companies.
