Our North Carolina Early 1700's DNA Project hopes to join our variant surnames into one big family through scientific DNA testing and grouping.
Many of us have chosen DNA testing to help connect/reconnect with our family or family history. The Y-DNA and mtDNA marker tests are STR tests. These tests do an awesome job of pointing to our larger genetic family because STRs suggest relationships1. However, "SNPs are at the very heart of genetic genealogy on family a level. SNPs define family trees."2
Test as many markers as you can to begin and plan to test SNPs as they become available!
We can't wait to find new relationships and family lines!
