The DNA Project is focused on the surnames Poropat, Poropatić, Poropatic, Poropatich, Poropatics, Parapatić, Parapatic, Parapatich, Parapatics, Parapatits, Parapatitsch, Poretti*, which are primarily of Croatian origin. The project is named after the most numerous surname. Any male with one of the listed surname forms (*accepted only individuals with the surname Poretti within Istria County in Croatia, Trieste city in Italy among others, who before joining ensured evidence their ancestors had surname Poropat, see Project's "Background") are invited to join, connect with the project community, and make Y-DNA test. As for females with the surname, although their mtDNA test result could be out of scope for the project and they do not carry their father's Y-DNA, the project is open to them because belong to the same surname community. However, we advise them to check and test their father's direct paternal line or partner's direct paternal line who have inherited the surname. Any person with the surname who has had a Y-DNA, mtDNA or autosomal test (atDNA) with another company is welcomed to join the project after they transfer DNA results to FTDNA, or to contact the administrator. In the "Background" section of the Project are cited quotes about etymology, history, and demography of the surname, with rough English translation of reliable sources from Croatian and any other languages because these sources and information are not easily available and understandable to members worldwide. In the "Goals" section are mentioned minimum and maximum goals with a minimum method. In the "News" section are listed news related to the project.
