Big Y-700
The Big Y-700 test is now available for purchase. This test includes 727 STR markers in addition to the standard 111 STRs but not all STRs will be called for a given sample.*
All FamilyTreeDNA website and CM pages have been updated as needed to display Big Y and/or Big Y-700.
It is important to note the following:
• The Big Y-500 is no longer available for purchase.
• Big Y-700 upgrade for an existing Big Y-500 customer is $249. This is a new Big Y test. If there is not enough material left of your initial sample you will be sent a new kit.
*As testing proceeds, additional information will be available.
June 1 2018: It is now possible to download BAM files for BigY testers.
1. Click on Results in BigY500
2. Click on Download Raw Data
3. Click on Generate BAM File.
It will then say Generating BAM File. This can take a few days and you will need to keep checking on Download Raw Data each day. Eventually a new Download BAM File button should appear along with the size of the file. Approximately 580MB.
Oct 10 2017: FTDNA announced a major migration of Big Y results from the Hg19 to the H38 reference model. This will mean a pause in new Big Y results and some strange results while this is going on. There are no up charges or services fees for this and it might show a few more SNPs because it is a better mapping of the Y chromosome. There are also new Big Y Chromosome Browser and Big Y Matching SNP Terminal Guide tools.
