About us

The Romania Y-DNA, mtDNA and autosomal DNA geographical project welcomes all who have a direct paternal line, direct maternal line or ancestry in Romania. This includes the National Genographic participants, or those who tested with other companies and wish to transfer their results to FTDNA. Note: In addition to the confines of Romania, all surnames with Y-DNA/mtDNA Romanian heritage are welcome, irrespective of the location for the most distant known ancestor. We are also accepting those who have an ancestral connection with Romanian lands, in spite of border changes during the years. As such, we welcome not only those from Romania, but also from Moldova, Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia (Serbian Banat and Timok), Bulgaria, Israel and diaspora in general, who have Romanian ancestry (via name, family history or spoken language). Vlachs/Aromanians/Macedo-Romanians/Megleno-Romanians/Istro-Romanians are also welcome to join our group. The same applies to those with Hungarian, German or Jewish roots, within the confines of Romanian lands. ***** If you have completed the FGS test please consider sharing your FGS coding region results with the project administrators. The coding region results are not shown on the project page and will not be made public, and by default they are also hidden from the project administrators. The coding region results are essential for identifying your lowest subclade, for identifying new subclades and for filling in the fine details on the mt and Y tree, hence finding closer matches. Y-DNA: please consider doing a Y-67 or Y-111. One of the best investments is BigY which give you the terminal SNP of your paternal line. This group has a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/RomaniaGenetics/ ***** If you have questions, please email the project administrators: dan_draggon at hotmail.com and cristina.cristea55 at yahoo.com. For those of you who do not speak English well, the group administrators will be more than happy to assist and communicate with you directly in Romanian.
