About us

ROWE, ROW, ROE, ROHE, ROEHE, and any other reasonable spelling variations are welcome to join the project. Only males have Y-chromosomes in the Human DNA, accordingly male ROWE (and Variants, etc.) can participate in a Y-DNA Surname based section of this project. However, Females that have a close Male Biological relatives can submit that Y-DNA and obtain DNA testing results. We KNOW it is not the best, but it is what it is and We encourage everyone to at a minimum read the Introduction to DNA so all are aware what DNA testing can, and cannot do. Family Finder is another option (but does not change the basics of DNA). So, in other words, female that wish to join may do so under the above provision, and help further the DNA results, or Rowe records, or find more about your ROWE line "fits". If you do have a close biological male ROWE/etc. relative, it is the fastest way to submit a DNA (swab) sample for your line. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Rowe Group Admin, SM Rowe if you need help (but it may be some time to respond-posting to the group might be faster). To participate meaningfully, testees will need to share their direct male line ancestry back to the earliest known ROWE/etc., as a pedigree (excluding living persons). The rest of us with ROWE (etc) ancestry but lacking a Y chromosome may participate via FamilyFinder (great for back to say 4-6 generations over all of your ancestry), or less usefully for genealogical timeframes, mtDNA. We will try to post when DNA test sales are announced by FTDNA.
