About us
Welcome to the Ruffle worldwide DNA project which includes the variants Ruffel, Ruffell and Ruffles. If you wish to go ahead and order a test proceed to the order form for more information and prices. The 37 marker Y-DNA test is the best value for money.
Documentary records suggest that the vast majority of Ruffle males trace their line back to the counties of Suffolk and Essex, England. Did all Ruffle share a common ancestor or did the name develop independently in different parts of the country or the world? How do you fit in? This project can find the answers.
The project is open to any male with the surname Ruffle or Ruffel or Ruffell or Ruffles or any variant. The DNA test used for male line genealogical purposes is the Y-DNA test. By testing Y-DNA it is possible to compare the results of two or more men and determine whether they have a common ancestor or belong to a common branch. Y-DNA tests are currently available for 12, 25, 37, 67 or 111 markers. The 37 marker test is the best option to choose initially as it provides the best value for money and is the test that we recommend. If your budget allows the Y-DNA67 marker test is the best long term option.
The Y-DNA test is for your direct paternal line, which would be your father, your father's father, your father's father's father, and so on back in time. You must be male to take this test, and you should have the surname Ruffle or Ruffel or Ruffell or Ruffles or a variant. If you believe there is a Ruffle (or variant) in your direct male line, even if you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, please encourage a male in your Ruffle/Ruffel/Ruffell/Ruffles family line to participate. Many females sponsor a close male relative such as a father or brother or uncle or cousin to test on their behalf.
The General Fund section below is a facility provided by Family Tree DNA to enable people to sponsor or part sponsor tests for other people. I receive notifications of any donations made and will liaise between sponsors and testees to ensure that orders for tests are placed correctly. Please email me if you intend to contribute to the fund.
Please contact me if you have any questions or would like advice. I will help you interpret and evaluate your results, and will help testees extend and verify their paper research.
