About us

The project goals summarised:

  1. To identify genetic relatives of the descendants of the Scottish prisoners taken in the Civil Wars in the Isles (1638-51), with special focus on the ones transported to America after the battles of Dunbar (1650) and Worcester (1651).

  2. To try to identify ancestral places of origin in Scotland or Scottish relatives of the transported prisoners.

  3. To use DNA testing and genealogical research to understand more about the history of the people who fought for the Scottish sides, were captured and transported, and of their and their descendants’ lives in America.
