The project has multiple goals and more will be added over time. The most important goal we have is to help men and women, descended from any Staats line, discover their deepest ancestral roots and their relations within the Staats families. Here is a summary of the project's goals:

• Solve the mystery of who the father of Peter Staats(born about 1690) of Gowanus was. We know the father was either Pieter Staats (son of Pieter Janse Staats) or Jan Janse Staats (son of Jan Pieterszen).K
• Discover possible relation between Jan Pieterszen Van Huysen(van Husum) of Husum, Denmark (now Germany) and Abraham Staats of Holland - both of whom immigrated to New Holland (New York) in the 17th century.
  • Solved! They were not related!
• Build genetic 'fingerprints' of what our ancestors' DNA might have been. This will provide forensic evidence that will help participants and researchers more accurately determine our ancestry.
• Discover if their is a relation between one of the Staats lines and the Storts line.
