About us
Stedman is one of the oldest surnames in Britain and has been documented for almost 800 years. We spread throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland then further to America, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere. Traditional paper trails freaquently aren’t sufficient to unravel which of the current UK families share common ancestry nor the connections and origin of many of those that left.
The project has already made significant progress but much is still to be learnt and in order to help piece our story together we need males with all variations of the Stedman name where ever you are to order Y-DNA 37 marker kits so we can all benifit.
Our project is also aligned with the Stidham project as in some parts of the United States families interchangeably used either Stedman or Stidham type spellings.
