About us
Several early settlers in the American colonies bore the name SWEET or SWETT, and stories abound concerning the relationships that may have existed among them, but no documentation is available. We seek to discover whether these settlers came from one family originally, or many. The testing has already revealed several different families, some in England and some in America, but no family's DNA pattern has yet been traced from one place to the other. The DNA patterns of the lineage founders can be reconstructed from those found in their descendants. As soon as these ancestral patterns, known as haplotypes, have been established, it will be possible to determine whether any modern Sweet is related to one or more of the immigrant lines.
This project is open to all men with surnames similar to SWEET and to men who believe they descend in the male line from an ancestor with such a surname. We accept Y-STR test results from any lab with reporting protocols that allow comparison with other labs.
