FAQ
Why does my DNA Kit number not show up in the DNA results?
The only results that show publicly in an FTDNA project with kit numbers are mtDNA tests (Male or Female) and yDNA test kits (Male only). You also have to opt in to publicly sharing your DNA results.
Those members who have done the Family Finder test or transferred results from a third party to FTDNA do not show up in the public project listings.
I would encourage those who have tested to make sure you have added your surnames to your project profile and uploaded a Gedcom showing your direct lines going back at least 5 or 6 generations or more.
How to add surnames to your FTDNA account?
First) Print out a standard pedigree sheet or report from your current software or just fill in a paper pedigree sheet. This will show your direct ancestors starting with the person who tested.
Second) Log onto your FTDNA account using this link below

On your myFTDNA Home page on the upper right you will see your name and kit number. Hover your mouse pointer over it and there will be a drop down with the word account settings with a small cog wheel icon. You should click on that. cog wheel
Under Account Settings page you will see ACCOUNT INFORMATION GENEALOGY PRIVACY & SHARING PROJECT PREFERENCES NOTIFICATION PREFERENCES
Click on GENEALOGY
Under Surnames List you will see Add surname*
Click on Add Surname* and you add your surname there. You can also edit your surnames in your list if you have duplications or wierd names in your listing which sometimes occurs when you upload your GEDcom file to your FTDNA profile.
How do I add the Most Distant Known (MDK) Paternal and Maternal ancestors to my FTDNA profile?

You will see Surnames Earliest Known Ancestors
You will see two boxes to add your ancestor information, one for Direct Paternal Ancestor and one for Direct Maternal Ancestor.. There is not much space in the fields (44 characters) so you can use abbreviations for the state names. Do not use commas or other ? as they take up space. You would list the last known grandparent of your father in the paternal field and the last known grandmother of your mother in the maternal field.
Example Paternal: John Doe 1790SC - 1860AL m Jane Smith
Example Maternal: Jane Smith 1810IL - 1870AL m John Doe
Under Location you can add where they were born and the GPS coordinates if known. If you add this information it will show on the reports for yDNA and mtDNA maps.
