FAQ
Why should I test when I have researched my Tripp family to England in the 1400s?
Errors in compiled genealogies, unannounced adoptions, and record errors contribute to the genetic record not matching the paper trail. About one-third of the current Tripp Surname Project members have mismatches between their genetic pedigree and their researched paper pedigree.
Does DNA testing replace traditional genealogical research?
DNA testing does not replace traditional genealogical research. Used in conjunction with traditional methods, it can confirm or disprove relationships where records are in error or do not exist.
OK, I want to test, what do you recommend?
We suggest that you start with a Y-37 marker test. You receive a $20 discount if you first join the Tripp Surname Project. Occasionally FTDNA offers sales for further savings. To confirm close family relationships, you may need to upgrade to 67 or even 111 markers.
