About us
Many genetic genealogy enthusiasts are testing pioneers, having taken Big Y and more. Preliminary work by Alex Williamson (ytree.net) and Nigel McCarthy (McCarthy DNA Study, R-CTS4466Plus DNA) has sketched out an SNP progression CTS4466 (South Irish, Type II), then A1135 (which Alex calls ambiguous), then Z16259. Z16259 has been identified as a potential relevant Uí Fidgenti marker. A1135 includes cousin branches to the Uí Fidgenti.
The goals of the project are as follows:
Discover the genetic signatures (STR signatures and SNPs) of the rulers of the Uí Fidhgeinte and their ancestors, thereby providing some physical evidence that these semi-mythical people existed.
Align our results and conclusions with the following haplogroup, tuath, and region DNA projects: Munster Irish, Corca Laidhe, R-L21 South Irish, Eoganacht Septs.
Discover the genetic signatures of those who may have resided in the tuath, possibly having relocated into adjacent tuaths and into more distant regions, such as West Cork.
Contribute to the evolution of the relevant surname projects as we discover those surnames belonging to the Uí Fidhgeinte.
