About us

VAN BUSKIRK and any other reasonable spelling variations are welcome to join the project. We also welcome those with the majority Van Buskirk haplotypes but bear a different surname. (Please inquire about that if you need!) Only males have Y-chromosomes so the kit you join with needs to belong to a male who took a Y-DNA test. If you are female, you can have a male VAN BUSKIRK etc. relative submit a sample for your line. This group is very active and has done extensive Big-Y-700 testing. A Laurens Andriessen - reputedly born in Denmark c.1625 came to New Amsterdam (New York, NY) c.1654. It appears that he may have invented the Van Boskirk (Van Buskirk) surname for himself thus being the progenitor of the Van Buskirk/Buskirk surname. Dying in 1694 he had four known sons: Andries Laurens(1660-1733), Laurens(1663-1724), Pieter(1665-1738), Thomas Laurens(1668-1748). As of DEC-2024 we have 13 Big-Y-700 testers descended from three of the sons, but no testers from descendants of Pieter. At this point we have proven that Laurens - Son #2 of immigrant Laurens Andriessen VanBuskirk is the progenitor of Y-SNP N-BY117284, and Thomas Laurens - Son #4 of Laurens Andriessen Van Buskirk is the progenitor of Y-SNP N-FT421582. Any Van Buskirk who tests positive for either of these two SNPs will then be known to descend via one of these two lineages. Pieter may indeed have living male-lineage descendants that we are looking for. This is an active, helpful and generous (with Group Funds) surname group!
